The objective is to develop a 2D and 3D Design Automation application which will automate the generation of configuration-specific detailed 2D and 3D models, drawings, and manufacturing information for individual customer orders.
We already have a web interface to retrieve the parameters for the drawings from the user. The developer’s role here will be to create an application that accepts parameters (INPUT) and outputs the CAD files (OUTPUT).
We also need to develop 2D and 3D CAD automation components for product visualization within our Configure Price Quote (CPQ) application.
The 3D Design Automation system will need to work with our customers’ 2D and 3D CAD systems to dynamically generate configuration-specific 2D and 3D models based on features, options, and dimensions that are entered by users into our existing Product Configurator. The 2D/3D Automation application will need to dynamically resolve 2D/3D CAD model templates containing assembly and part templates, parametric relationships, and geometric constraints at run-time to generate CAD outputs, as well as detail drawings and manufacturing information. The application will need to be able to read a CAD model assembly structure to identify the components in a product’s BOM.
The system will need to support the automatic generation of:
• High-level models and quote drawings to enable product visualization within the configuration and sales process.
• Specification drawings and CAD files (e.g. DXE, IGS, STP files) for delivery to the customer once the order is placed.
• Shop drawings such as detail, section, quality, and inspection drawings at the assembly, subassembly, and component level for use by manufacturing.
